Looking Ahead
Letter from the General Manager
And somehow, September is here. Michigan summers always go by too quickly. As we head into fall we hope for good weather so that golf can continue.
A quick overview of things to come:
Membership Matters
This program gives existing members the opportunity to earn 25 percent off 2020 dues by referring new members to the Club. If new members pay 25 perfect of their dues now, they will be able to pay the remaining in December, January, and February. New members will also be able to golf at Railside for the remaining of the year for free. This is for golf memberships only.
Meet Jennifer
I wanted to introduce you to a new smiling face that is coming to Railside. Jennifer Ebner will be joining our team as our new Office Manager and Membership Director. She has been with Huntington Bank for the past 12 years and will be starting with us the first part of September. Make sure to stop by the office and introduce yourself to her and welcome her to Railside.
Holiday Parties at The Union Pavilion
It’s hard to believe that holiday parties are right around the corner, but… they are. Be sure to book your corporate and/or family party at The Union. We can host them all! Contact Donna today to book.
As always, thank you all for you support and a great summer!
Best,
Jim Bultema
General Manager

Ladies’ Thistle Cup and Men’s Gallagher Cup
Saturday, September 28 is the annual Thistle Cup and Gallagher Cup. The Ladies’ Thistle Cup is comprised of two 12-woman teams who will square off over 27 holes (three nine- hole match play formats) to determine the winner of the Thistle Cup. The Men’s Gallagher Cup operates in the same manner. Both events will have participants who have qualified based on their fine play and participation over the season in the specific qualifying events.
New Fall Merchandise Arriving
The Golf Shop will see the arrival of new fall merchandise and apparel from many of your favorite brands. Lole, Columbia, Stitch, Straight Down, FootJoy, and Peter Millar to name a few. Please make sure to visit the Golf Shop often throughout the fall to see the new merchandise and to use your gift certificate balances before they expire on October 31.
Thank you for your continued support of the Golf Shop and the Club Events!

Around the Course
Well, summer should get a speeding ticket. While it has come and gone, it was still a fun time! The month of September seems to always be bittersweet. We welcome cooler temperatures with color changes, visiting the orchards and cider mills, and of course, football season with open arms.
On the down side, we have to say goodbye to our part time help. It’s been a wonderful season and we were lucky to have them for as long as we do. They do many of the jobs that others cannot, or will not do. We are thankful and appreciative of all their hard work and efforts to help keep the course running smoothly. With that being said, we will continue to push forward to put out a product that everyone will enjoy.
Work continues with a moderate topdressing to help smooth the greens from the recent aerifications. We will continue fungicide and fertilizing applications to all greens this month as well as treating for any dollar spot that may be visible. Lastly, we will begin making a fairway and bunker bank spray application of growth regulator and wetting agent. Wetting agent will help reduce soil water repellency and promote water infiltration.
We look forward to wrapping up the season with you and will see you around the course.
Enjoy yourselves,
Jeff Smith,
Golf Course Superintendent
