Things to Come at Railside

Letter from the General Manager

Dear friends,

I’m hoping the sun will shine and the snow will melt soon, making way for spring and more importantly golf!

A quick overview of things to come at Railside:

Events Calendar

Our 2019 Events Calendar is now online. This calendar details all golf events currently planned for the year. Make sure you mark these events on your calendar. All events will require an RSVP.

Holiday Parties

Donna and team are already booking for 2019 holiday gatherings. A lot of the folks who celebrated with us last year have reserved their space for this year. If you or your business is looking to host a holiday gathering near the end of the year, make sure you connect with Donna to learn more.

Easter Brunch

Easter is on April 21st. If you have not made your reservation, please do so by calling Kari at 616.878.1140 or email her here.

Junior Golf

Railside will offer our Junior Golf program again this year. As you begin to make your summer plans, be sure to keep this in mind. The Golf Shop will distribute information in the near future. Keep an eye out for it!

The Union Pavilion

Construction is well underway, with the interior framework ready to support more finished carpentry. It’s exciting to see the space come alive! We still have available dates for weddings this summer/fall. Connect with Donna for more information.

As always, thank you all for your continued support of Railside Golf Club. I am excited to see you all in the coming spring and summer as we host fun events for you and your friends.

Best,

Jim Bultema
General Manager

Upcoming Golf Events

Men’s and Ladies’ League Sign up Night Open House and Rules of Golf Seminar

Please join us for our annual Men’s and Ladies’ League Sign Up Night Open House on Thursday, March 28. The open house will begin at 6:00pm with your opportunity to sign up for the 2019 leagues.

This evening will give you time to connect with you league partner and see other fellow members after a loooooonng winter. If you haven’t found a league partner yet, this is a great opportunity to sign up as an individual, too! The Professional Staff would love the opportunity to help you find your next league partner. Perfect for new members, those new to the leagues, and those who are ready for a change. And, please plan to stay for an informative rules of golf seminar hosted by the Golf Association of Michigan at 7:00pm. By now you’ve been able to see how the new rules have impacted the game and this seminar will give you the opportunity to learn about the changes and how they will impact you during the 2019 season.

Ladies’ Opening Dinner

Mark your calendars and plan to join us for the Ladies’ Opening Dinner on Tuesday, April 16!  Cocktails begin at 6:00pm followed by dinner at 6:30pm. Enjoy friendship and fellowship while learning about the wonderful golf opportunities and events your club has to offer. The Professional Staff will be hosting a rules of golf seminar at 7:30pm following dinner. We will go over the most impactful changes and take questions about the new rules. We look forward to seeing you there!

New 3:00pm Men’s League

New for 2019! A 3:00pm league will be offered for those who would like to play earlier in the day.  The 3:00pm league is open to the first 18 two-man teams to sign up. This will afford great pace of play and keep the opposite nine open for regular play. It also allows us to continue to grow the league while keeping the popular shotgun style format that makes Railside’s league so unique.

Each league includes round-robin nine hole matches within flights, weekly skins game within flights, round-robin payouts, and closing dinner. Sign up for the 3:00pm league, the 6:00pm league, or both! Learn more by coming to the League Night Open House on March 28 at 6:00pm.

Golf Course Rating

It seems like so long has passed since the end of the 2018 golf season and as you may recall, the club began the process of the standard 10-year re-rate for course and slope rating. The GAM Course Rating Team was here back in early October to measure the yardages of our tees, measure green dimensions, and measure distances to obstacles.

The next step will be for the GAM Course Rating Team to come back this spring to finish the process which includes assigning obstacle values for appropriate holes and teeing grounds in order to finalize the new course and slope rating. We expect this to be finished by mid to late May. Stay tuned!

Warm weather is coming and we look forward to seeing you at the club soon!

Spring Course Projects

I think we can all agree that it’s time for warmer temperatures! As the month of March approaches, we are patiently awaiting the sun and melting snow.

As we prepare for the course to open, we have been diligently working to improve standards and provide a product that you will enjoy. We have been scouring the course and noticed only a few limbs down here and there. Once the weather breaks, we will be out with rakes, shovels, and chain saws, cleaning debris and clearing the course.

The month of March will be the start of a busy season. Some of the projects that we will be concentrating on are:

  • Replacing and fixing broken valves
  • Removing all bunker boards
  • Adding, cutting and replacing sod to specific areas such as #2, #4, #8 and #12

As a team, we strive for excellence and have been conscientiously working hard to get prepped for another successful year.  We look forward to seeing everyone soon!
