Looking Ahead

Letter from the General Manager

Dear Friends,

Despite the rainy weather we have been having we are getting into our summer routine here at the club. Here’s to a great June with hopefully many sunny days ahead.

A quick overview of things to come at Railside:

Member Appreciation Day
We are so thankful for all our members and we want to celebrate you on Monday, June 10th to show our appreciation. From 12pm-9pm members can bring 3 free guests. Cart fees will still apply.

The Union Pavilion
The Pavilion has had its first wedding, outing, and party! We are excited to continue to use this beautiful space for even more great events. There are still a few available dates for weddings this summer/fall. Contact Donna for more information.

Pool
The pool is now open! There are a few available spots for swimming lessons and we will be holding water aerobic classes. Contact Karla for more information.

As always thank you all for your continued support. Here’s to a great June!

Best,
Jim Bultema

Events, Summer Apparel, and New Staff!

We are off and running! Despite the inconsistent weather over the last month, the June golf event schedule is upon us. Believe it or not, both the Men’s and Ladies’ leagues are more than a third of the way through their schedules. We are on to round two of the Men’s and Ladies’ President’s Cup Matches. The Couples’ President’s Cup Matches and the Ladies’ Ringer events are both underway too. Whew! June is also home to our Men’s and Ladies’ Member-Member Championships. The men’s event is slated for June 14 and 15 while the ladies’ event is June 21 and 22.

Men’s Team Skins Champions

Congratulations to our 2019 Men’s Team Skins Champions!

Junior Golf
We are pleased to offer our youngest members a great opportunity to experience the game this summer. Our 2019 Junior Golf Program begins on Saturday, June 8 with Family Golf Opening Event and the first instruction day begins on Tuesday, June 11 (9 Holers and 3 Holers) and Thursday, June 13 (5 Holers and 1 Holers). Please click here for more information. Our PGA Junior League Team is also underway. PGA Junior League Golf is a wonderful program that provides juniors 13 and under the opportunity to be part of a team and compete against other area private clubs in a scramble match play format.

Summer Apparel is Arriving
Please stop in the Golf Shop to shop through the newest in golf fashion. Brands such as Vineyard Vines, Travis Matthew, Under Armour, Nike, Puma, Footjoy, Peter Millar and many more are in stock. We also have the latest in footwear from FootJoy and Ecco. Plus Father’s Day is June 16… We have many great gift ideas for Dad!

Great new apparel from Peter Millar!

New Staff
We are excited to welcome our new Assistant Golf Professional, Avery Murphy, to our staff. Avery is originally from Central Illinois and most recently worked at the Eastpoint Golf Club near Jupiter, Florida. Please say hi to Avery next time you are in the Golf Shop and welcome him to Railside! We also have many new staff members on our team outside and inside the Golf Shop this season. We will be working diligently to train them to exceed your service expectations.

Course Reminders
Please continue to repair and replace your ball marks and divots. Also, please use proper golf cart etiquette around the tees and the greens by keeping the carts on the path in these areas. The carts are to remain on the cart paths only on all par 3 holes as well.

Here’s to more fairways, greens, and one putts!

FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT JEFF SMITH

Around the Course

The long awaited spring finally came, but now it seems as if summer is right around the corner. With a lot to accomplish in a short amount of time, we are making excellent progress, despite April and May being cold and wet. In the past week alone, we have had more than enough rain, but needless to say, the rough is loving it. Again, we’re all hoping for June to be what we love about our Michigan summers: sunshine and clear blue skies.

As we move into the summer months you will notice a variety of projects happening.

• Clear coating #1 and #2 cart path.
• Filling and leveling the cart path at each end of the bridges.
• Maintaining the new sod areas of the new facility and areas of the course.
• Spraying for fungus, pest control (ants/grubs), and feeding the turf with nutrients.
• Verticutting our short grasses for thatch control.
• Topdressing our greens with sand for a smooth and fast putting surface.

We hope everyone is enjoying the golf course and are looking forward to another great summer. Providing our members with exemplary playing conditions is something we strive for daily.
