LETTER FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER JIM BULTEMA
Looking Ahead
Letter from the General Manager
Dear Friends,
We blinked and it’s somehow July. Hopefully you’ve taken advantage of the few sunny summer days we’ve had. And hopefully July brings more sunshine and more great golf days!
A quick overview of things to come at Railside:
Member-Guest Tournaments
Our annual Member-Guest tournaments are happening this week! A big thank you to our committees for their hard work on these events. I am looking forward to two memorable tournaments with you all.
The Union Pavilion
With wedding season in full swing we are already looking ahead to holiday parties. Look for a little Christmas in July present further down in this newsletter!
Pool
There are many great pool days ahead. Remember there is now food and drinks available. We are also still holding water aerobic classes every Tuesday morning. Don’t miss a great workout! Contact Karla for more information.
Reminder
Please remember to be respectful of the homes and other properties around the golf course. If a ball flies slightly off line – I know that never happens – please do not try to jump the split rail fence to retrieve it. And, on the off chance you hit a house, please make sure no damage has been done.
As always, thank you all for your continued support of the club. Here’s to a sunny July!
Best,
Jim Bultema
General Manager

FROM THE PRO MATT KOETS
Tournaments, President's Cup, and Junior League
I hope this finds each of you well and enjoying a very nice summer so far. Railside has been witness to some outstanding tournament results over the last month, and we would like to congratulate the following players on their great play.
2019 Men’s Member-Member Champions- Dr. Jim Hoekwater and Casey Young
2019 Ladies’ Member-Member Champions- Joy Kerns and Lisa Marcusse
President’s Cup, Compadre Cup, and Ringer Rounds
The President’s Cup Matches for Men, Ladies’, Couples,’ and the Men’s Compadre Cup are in full swing and we wish all the players who are still alive in each bracket the best of luck as the events come to a conclusion in a few short months. We are also excited to see our Ladies’ Ringer Event have such great participation! Please continue to schedule the matches and ringer rounds and notify the Golf Shop so that we can prepare the proper scorecard for you.
PGA Junior League
The Railside PGA Junior League Team is off to a fantastic start! The team started the season with a close loss at Kent CC, however, they’ve rebounded in dominating fashion. Their first win was a 9-3 victory at Cascade Hills CC and they followed that up with a victory at Egypt Valley CC 7 ½ to 4 ½. The season finishes with several home matches during the month of July. Good luck junior leaguers!!
Please enjoy a safe and happy Independence Day with family and friends and I hope to see you around the club!

Around the Course
The upcoming weeks we’ll be optimistic for some nice summer weather. There’s tremendous amount of work to be done leading into the Member/Guest. Bunkers will be completely blown out, re-shaped, edged and smoothed, fairways and tees divoted repeatedly, yardage markers and irrigation heads edged, and every tree, creek bank, pond, and fence line is trimmed. Not to mention our mowing schedule will double the week of the event.
With the unusually wet weather this time of the year, ball marks on our greens have been a major issue this season. We fix them in the mornings as we set up the course, but sometimes it’s too late and too much. Fixing your ball mark as you walk onto the green is much more efficient than trying to fix them a day later. Please remember to check and fix marks hole to hole. Topdressing our greens will help and we do so, but this isn’t something that can happen on a daily basis.
We hope everyone is having an awesome summer!
