In the rolling hills of West Michigan, the historic Lake Shore Southern Railway once connected Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo, spanning 58 miles and running three times daily. For over a century, it passed through the heart of Byron Center.
Today the Lake Shore Southern lives on in our community. The track was eventually converted to the Kent Trails, a scenic biking and walking path, and inspired Railside Golf Club.
MKT Associates established Railside Golf Club in 1991 as part of a real estate development. In 1999, the members elected to purchase Railside from MKT, and the Club became member owned. In 2009, it became privately owned when it was purchased by Railside Acquisition LLC. The golf course was designed by renowned Michigan golf course architect Jerry Mathews.
Today Railside Golf Club consists of an 18-hole private golf course, driving range & practice facility, swimming pool, full-service clubhouse, restaurant, pro shop, and Union Pavilion event venue.
